Atlona Technologies is the first and only company to release plenum HDMI and DVI cables.
For schools, hospitals, and government buildings, the plenum space above drop ceiling and under raised floors is the optimal place for routing communication and A/V cables. In order to use these plenum spaces, installers need to use special cables designed to prevent the spread of fire. In the event of fire, its outer material is more resistant to flames and, when burning, produces less smoke than ordinary cabling. For installers wanting to route digital video through plenum spaces, the only option has been to use expensive CAT5 extenders, and Plenum CAT5 cable.

According to Article 800 of the National Electrical Code (NEC), plenum cables must comply with the specifications for flammability and smoke density outlined in Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) testing methods. Until now, the only cables made to comply with these standards were Twisted-pair and coaxial. Atlona Technologies is the first to offer HDMI and DVI cables that meet these requirements, as well as the HDMI 1.3 certification requirements. These cables will be available by the end of Q1 2008, in lengths ranging from 15 to 50 feet.
