Until now, extending HDMI over CAT-5 cable has involved running two Cat 5 cables, one for the video signal, and another for the DDC information. There were a handful of single interconnect solutions using a single fiber optic and some using CAT-6 or CAT-7 cables, but most were limited to a maximum range or 60’ at 1080p.
Atlona’s new Single CAT-5 HDMI extender (model: AT-HDMI40SRS) will extend HD signal from HDMI sources up to 200’ at 1080i or 130’ at 1080p. The device has a built in video equalizer, which is adjustable though a dial on the receiver. The unit is an affordable solution with a low MSRP of $329, and is expected to ship mid April (2008).
